Sam and Bucky’s fight is a straight up brawl with believably uncoordinated punches and ground fighting with blood and spit flying everywhere. Steve and White Wolf’s fight feels like opposite day with the normally graceful Wolf fighting with a rabid fury and Steve dancing around with shield focused, flourishing combat. Aside from some awkward posing, almost every hit and strike feels like they have the appropriate impact and weight to them and there are some nasty ones. His fight scenes, which take up most of the latter half of the book are also pretty darn stellar to look at. His backgrounds are amazing with vast cityscapes showing the absolute destruction of White Wolf’s forces, debris and smoke everywhere, as well as particle effects and waves of energy when certain weapons are used and ripple off the page. With White Wolf having transformed into an actual wolf, Magno does his best to almost show every single strand of fur, every jagged tooth with saliva dripping from his jowls at the thought of killing the Captains. His linework is so incredibly detailed from characters’ clothing to monster designs and everything in between. Magno is able to set the stage and tone of the book from the very first few pages with an opening that shows a bit of character drama with Ian and then a double page spread of the Dimension Z invasion across the Earth. Taking over the art duties for this issue is the excellent Carlos Magno whose art strikes the perfect balance of being both action packed and extremely dramatic at the same time. With Sharon increasingly being driven by her anger and grief, Kelly, Lanzing and Onyebuchi have taken her in an entirely new and active direction by making her the New Destroyer, honoring her friend Roger Aubrey, while Peggy slinks ever further into the dark by following Bucky. With everything that’s happened to Sharon and Peggy over the course of this series, it’s no wonder that they’ve drifted apart and found new missions of their own. Bucky hasn’t needed the mantle of Captain America for years and has always worked best as a background player and his role as The New Revolution shows just what he can accomplish when he’s allowed to take the reigns on his destiny for once. While Steve and Same have their continued character arcs, the same can also be said for Bucky, Sharon and Peggy Carter as well. Sam Wilson, as well, learns that the shield doesn’t make the man as he finally has his own knock-down, drag-out fight with a former Captain America in Bucky after having beat Steve two issues prior, cementing himself as having earned the title at least for the third time over. While Steve’s focus in this narrative has been figuring out how to reconcile both sides of his life, it’s through his son Ian that he learns that he doesn’t have to keep them separate, but embrace both aspects – being the warrior and the consummate friend, artist and father that he was always meant to be. While this mini event mainly focused on the exploits of Sam and Steve, it was as much about Bucky and everything he was doing in the background as well and how everything he did contributed to the larger narrative in both current Captains worlds.Ĭollin Kelly, Jackson Lanzing and Tochi Onyebuchi have done an excellent job with this event, tying both Captain America books together with one cohesive story that uplifts their respective missions, brings them close together and paints a clear idea for the future of both characters and their respective partners as well. That’s why it’s such a breath of fresh air to have him become the New Revolution in the Century Game, have him hatch a larger plot of his own and have it succeed through his own deceptive merits. Bucky Barnes has been used to working from the shadows since he was a child, but it’s always been at someone else’s behest, whether that’s the US Government, Hydra or even Steve Rogers himself, Bucky has always been at the beck and call of forces more powerful than he. Apart from Queen vs Rook, most of these situations will never arise on the board between two players of a higher standard. When we say “most common” here, we actually mean “most common” against weak players. The Most Common Pawnless Endgames Involving Rooks Thus, pawnless endgames are always assessed in terms of their ability to force a checkmate, if they cannot they result in a book draw. While there are several ways to win a game of chess, there is only one certain way to win at chess and that is to place your opponent’s king in checkmate. The drawn situation is often referred to as a “book draw” (that is, it arises from playing “by the book”). There are only two states from an “optimally played” (by which, we mean that no player makes a mistake) pawnless endgame – a draw or a forced win. This is partially because optimal chess play should involve protecting some pawns to deploy them in the endgame to gain a nice advantage when one is promoted into a queen and also because once these endgames are reached – it ought to be a matter of relative common sense to know which player has won and which has lost. In practice, among high standard chess players – these endings are rare (though king and queen vs king, king and rook vs king, and queen versus rook, do still occur). In chess “the pawnless endgame” occurs when there are only a small number of pieces left on the board and there are no pawns among them. The book systematically addresses all programming language constructs, starting from the very basic constructs such as variables and loops. For users, the book can serve as a handyreference next to the phone. This book walks you through all of the screens of the TouchDevelop app, and it points out similarities and differences of the TouchDevelop language compared to other programming languages. A project at Microsoft Research was created to answer a simple question: “It is possible to create interesting apps directly on a smartphone or tablet, without using a separate PC or a keyboard?” The result is TouchDevelop, a programming environment that runs on all modern mobile devices such as Windows Phone, iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, and also on PCs and Macs. And yet, mobile devices are not yet used for all computing tasks. Mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets are set to become the main computers that virtually all people will own and carry with them at all times. By pre-screening consumers for credit offers, lenders can minimize marketing costs by removing unqualified candidates from their mailing lists. When does a business need to pre-screen consumers’ credit without their knowledge? This method is used in the case of direct-mail marketing. A credit bureau (such as Experian, Equifax, or TransUnion) can provide a list of consumers meeting specific criteria to a bank or other lending institution or business. Pre-screen offers are soft pulls that happen behind the scenes without the consumer’s knowledge. Pre-Screen Versus Pre-Qualification Pre-Screening Soft Pulls
He makes some amazing stuff, so he was a great person to bounce some ideas off of. Like outdoor projects? Check out these Deck Decorating Ideas With Plants, a tutorial for a DIY Patio Coffee Table Made With Pavers, and the build plans for a Small Outdoor Plant Stand! How do you make a smokeless fire pit?Īs it happened, I was recently visiting an old friend over the weekend (shout out to Headberg5000) who is a mechanical engineer. The tutorial here assumes the use of properly dried firewood. Wood that is not fully dried/seasoned can also lead to more smoke. Don’t ask us how we know that burning 10-year-old dead wood leads to a lot of smoke. It’s also worth noting that there are other things that can lead to a smokier-than-average fire. It’s called “incomplete combustion.” So forcing oxygen to the combustion site (the fire) helps decrease the amount of smoke it produces. Why is my fire pit so Smokey?īut why are fire pits so smokey to begin with? In a fire, smoke occurs when there is not enough oxygen. To my surprise you can even buy these pits now prefabricated (at a much higher, non-DIY price) on Amazon or your local Home Depot or Lowes. The “how” of it all was beyond my comprehension, but Jon Chan gives a great description in the first 2 minutes of his video for anyone still curious. If you haven’t checked out some of the designs, they consist of a normal looking fire pit metal ring but with specifically placed drill holes for air intake. What the hell is a smokeless fire pit and how can I make one for myself? I started with YouTube for some quick and dirty inspiration. While my wife loves the smell of fire pit smoke, I can’t stand it. Naturally the first order of business was getting a fire pit set up. We recently left townhouse living and found ourselves with more yard space than we knew what to do with. Enjoy it! Our attempt at a DIY smokeless fire pit He does a lot of projects that don’t make it to the blog, but I had to share this one. This is a guest post from my husband Mike. Don’t change out bits while the Dremel tool is plugged in even if it is off.Wondering how to make a DIY smokeless fire pit? We were too! Learn how we used a battery-operated blower to dramatically decrease the amount of smoke our fire pit produces-no engineering degrees required.Don’t use a Dremel tool for large or long cuts when a large saw or a carving chisel would be more appropriate.Don’t push down too hard with the Dremel tool to avoid breaking your bits.Choosing the best Dremel carbide burr bits #1 Best Dremel carbide burr bits Conversely, higher numbers equate to smaller grits, which result in a smoother finish.ĭiamond engraver bits usually come in the following grit sizes: 40, 80. A 40-grit Dremel diamond bit will, therefore, have larger grits than 80-grit bits, resulting in a coarser finish. When choosing bits based on grit size, remember that lower numbers mean larger individual grits. They are better suited for medium-light stock removal and produce small chips. They are also used for plastics, ceramic, hardwood, and stone. They commonly produce long chips.ĭouble cut carbide burrs are more frequently used for ferrous and non-ferrous metals, aluminum, and softer steel. These burrs can remove material pretty quickly, leaving a reasonably smooth finish. Double cut and single cut: Which is best for burring?Ī single cut or “one flute” burrs are commonly used for stainless or hardened steel, copper, and cast iron. Pope Francis reminded the Church that unity prevails over conflict. Yes, I do believe that we can be peacemakers. We hear those words, we exchange a sign of peace, we join in the supper of the Lamb, and we are sent out into the world. Do I really believe that peace can be put into practice: beginning with prayer, the Eucharist, the rite of peace? Is the Church truly a primary instrument of peace in this stressed world? Am I ready to trust that God gives me peace when I ask? And yet … the rite of peace goes on. At times, this belief may strike us or others as naïve. The Church is called to be a community of peacemakers, and how much the world needs this community right now. We have received the gift of peace from the Lord, and we are part of a community that is striving to practice peace. As I go about my daily life, how can I cultivate this habit of asking the Lord for peace? What can help me to remember the gift of the Eucharist that I receive at Mass?Īs Christians, when we face disorder and violence, we know in our hearts and minds that we are not alone. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” (Mt 5:9). The One who loved all of creation into existence offers to each one of us the gift of peace. At times, I find myself singing these words without paying a lot of attention, but then I am awakened by that final verse: “Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.” This prayer brings me great consolation. I hope that this can become a habit, which requires working at it each day.ĭuring the Mass, we sing that it is the Lamb of God who grants us peace. Where better to seek and receive this help than at Mass?Įven more than a necessary reminder, I believe that the beautiful rite of peace can help me to develop the habit of recognizing that peace is a gift from God, and to embrace that gift by sharing it with others. I need God’s help–we need God’s help–to once again begin to rebuild peace and our relationships with God, self, others and creation. Death and violence have torn at many of our relationships and our communities. Many of us, including myself, are especially hungry for true peace and good relationships at this moment: in the last few months, we have been shaken by illness and COVID-related deaths, disruptions caused by the pandemic, a recent public killing and widespread social unrest. Having good relationships requires time, dedication, trust, willingness to forgive, and hard work. Peace means that we have good relationships: with God, with ourselves, with other people, and even with all of God’s creation. When I listen to the familiar words of the rite, I am reminded that the peace of Christ is much more than simply nice feelings or a vague sense that everything is OK. We so desperately need this gift and this reassurance. What could be more beautiful? This rite is truly a solemn moment in the Mass. Furthermore, the rite is also a plea for peace within the whole human family. It is not a time for simply greeting people who happen to be in the pews around us, but instead we are earnestly reminding ourselves that we are brought together, by our shared baptism, as a family united in love. I find great comfort in this rite, and also a powerful call. Let us offer each other the sign of peace.” After praying together the Our Father, we ask the Lord for peace and, trusting in the Lord’s gift, we confidently exchange a sign of this peace with our sisters and brothers in Christ. The peace of the Lord be with you always. One of the profound gifts of the Mass, and one that I have especially missed during this pandemic, is the rite of peace. Worldwide, TB is a leading cause of death among people with AIDS. TB is a common opportunistic infection associated with HIV. It causes inflammation and a thick, white coating on your mouth, tongue, esophagus or vagina. Candidiasis is a common HIV-related infection. Although it's declined significantly with current treatments for HIV/ AIDS, in the U.S., PCP is still the most common cause of pneumonia in people infected with HIV. This fungal infection can cause severe illness. HIV infection weakens your immune system, making you much more likely to develop many infections and certain types of cancers. This exposes them to droplets of other people's blood. People who use illicit injection drugs often share needles and syringes. These sores act as doorways for HIV to enter your body. Many STIs produce open sores on your genitals. Anal sex is riskier than is vaginal sex. Your risk of HIV increases if you have multiple sexual partners. Use a new latex or polyurethane condom every time you have sex. However, you're at greatest risk of HIV/ AIDS if you: Risk factorsĪnyone of any age, race, sex or sexual orientation can be infected with HIV/ AIDS. HIV isn't spread through the air, water or insect bites. That means you can't catch HIV or AIDS by hugging, kissing, dancing or shaking hands with someone who has the infection. You can't become infected with HIV through ordinary contact. Mothers who are HIV-positive and get treatment for the infection during pregnancy can significantly lower the risk to their babies. Infected mothers can pass the virus on to their babies. During pregnancy or delivery or through breastfeeding. The risk may be higher in low-income countries that are not able to screen all donated blood. Hospitals and blood banks screen the blood supply for HIV, so this risk is very small in the U.S. In some cases, the virus may be transmitted through blood transfusions. Sharing contaminated injection drug paraphernalia (needles and syringes) puts you at high risk of HIV and other infectious diseases, such as hepatitis. The virus can enter your body through mouth sores or small tears that sometimes develop in the rectum or vagina during sexual activity. You may become infected if you have vaginal, anal or oral sex with an infected partner whose blood, semen or vaginal secretions enter your body. To become infected with HIV, infected blood, semen or vaginal secretions must enter your body. AIDS is diagnosed when the CD4 T cell count falls below 200 or you have an AIDS-defining complication, such as a serious infection or cancer. You can have an HIV infection, with few or no symptoms, for years before it turns into AIDS. The fewer CD4 T cells you have, the weaker your immune system becomes. HIV destroys CD4 T cells - white blood cells that play a large role in helping your body fight disease. It can spread through sexual contact, illicit injection drug use or sharing needles, contact with infected blood, or from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding. If you think you may have been infected with HIV or are at risk of contracting the virus, see a health care provider as soon as possible. Persistent white spots or unusual lesions on your tongue or in your mouth. The signs and symptoms of some of these infections may include: These are called opportunistic infections or opportunistic cancers. You'll be more likely to develop diseases that wouldn't usually cause illness in a person with a healthy immune system. When AIDS occurs, your immune system has been severely damaged. Untreated, HIV typically turns into AIDS in about 8 to 10 years. Thanks to these life-saving treatments, most people with HIV in the U.S. Swollen lymph nodes - often one of the first signs of HIV infectionĪccess to better antiviral treatments has dramatically decreased deaths from AIDS worldwide, even in resource-poor countries.Symptomatic HIV infectionĪs the virus continues to multiply and destroy your immune cells - the cells in your body that help fight off germs - you may develop mild infections or chronic signs and symptoms such as: Some people develop more severe disease much sooner. This stage can last for many years if you're receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART). However, many people may not have any symptoms or infections during this time. In this stage of infection, HIV is still present in the body and in white blood cells. As a result, the infection spreads more easily during primary infection than during the next stage. However, the amount of virus in your bloodstream (viral load) is quite high at this time. These symptoms can be so mild that you might not even notice them. Swollen lymph glands, mainly on the neck. This illness, known as primary (acute) HIV infection, may last for a few weeks.
